Kids' Night at the Club

I know this is two blogs in one week. Amazing! Last night Klayton went to his 1st carnival/costume party/halloween. They were having the event at Kevin's golf course which is a little bit of a drive for us but we thought Klayton would enjoy himself so we ventured out.

This is him sitting next to a big blow up spider. There were close to 300 people there but Klayton wasn't faced. He just roamed around and looked at everything. We kne he had fun because the entire way home he babbled about everything he saw and did. What fun! He made a great sheriff.

Laura and John's Wedding

This past weekend Klayton got a new uncle. Uncle John - and suprise, suprise, he is a longhorn. Oh well! We will forgive him. The weekend really went good. We drove down Friday afternoon and rehearsal dinner was Friday night. When you eat dinner with 15 other people there are a bunch of people to make silly faces at Klayton and he just loved being the center of attention. Of course he has also taken a liking to tomatoes or carrots or green beans and the restaurant had all of this plus some bread and crackers and french fries. Yes, I am trying to say that he ate a ton. His poor little belly. Then on Saturday morning was the wedding. Klayton walked down the aisle (holding my hand) but did a great job except for the wedding was "interfering" with his morning nap and he wasn't all that happy about that so we snuck away for a quick nap before the reception. That meant that he had to fall asleep in my arms which, most of you know, does not happen. Well it did on Saturday. Yeah! I think that is the 1st time I have held in while he was asleep in 12 months :)

Then it was on to the reception where Klayton discovered M&M's. His Uncle David introduced them to him and before long we had maroon and orange M&M's everywhere. (Laura special ordered the M&M's and they were very cute) The theme of the weekend was definitely the A&M and UT rivalry and that was even more pronounced as the UT game was on during the reception. But Laura did get to have some revenge. Yes, she is sawing off the horns.

All in all the wedding was wonderful. Laura made a beautiful bride and it was great to visit with Grandpa Chance and Klayton's Great Uncle David. You can't help but laugh around them. I know I said there would be pictures but as usual, I was horrible with the camera. I think there are more pictures on Laura's camera and of course from the photographer but for now this is Klayton wathcing Uncle David dance. Klayton thought he was quite amusing.

Thankful

This weekend we spent at home. Sometimes those are the best and after all of the running around I think these weekends at home makes me realize how blessed we are and how thankful I am for everything God has given us. We didn't really do anything major on Sat - some yard work in the morning, a little playing, and then Klayton took a nap during the A&M game. After the game we simply made supper and played some more. Klayton would actually sit on my lap and walk around and get toys and come back and sit down and laugh and tell us whole stories (in a foreign language he tells great stories) and frankly it just doesn't get better than that. Of course Kevin was in a great mood after the game so that helped as well but it was just great. A nice dinner with your family, great conversation, and lots of laughs. Then on Sun. we went to church and to lunch and again Klayton played wonderfully and we feel asleep on the couch and read a few magazines. None of it sounds extraordinary but I couldn't help but smile all weekend. I think God gives us weekends like this to appreciate all that we have. On a daily basis there seems to be something to worry about but in the grand scheme, we have nothing to worry about because we have each other and we have God and that is amazing. I know it is not Thanksgiving yet but I just couldn't help but recollect on why we are so blessed. The picture is of Klayton eating one of his favorites - black beans - and they are a mess but his smile is just priceless.

A few weeks of travel

As much as I would like to forget the result of last weekend, the trip and events around the game were fun, so I'll say a few words. Last weekend we made the trip to College Station for the big A&M vs. Texas Tech game. Yes, that's right ouch! The game of course was a heart breaker and I get so involved in the games that I swear sometimes it upsets me as much as it does Kevin. Maybe that is because I just want to see him excited and having fun and with a loss that is sometimes difficult. We decided to head to College Station on Fri night so we left Klayton at home with Grandma and Aunt Laura. We had a great Friday evening out with Robyn and Thaddeus and woke up early Sat morning to begin the tailgating. All of Kevin's college buddies were coming to the game so it was great to visit with everyone. As I looked around at the tailgate I realized how we are all growing up so fast. There were children everywhere. Really quite amusing. Guys holding bottles (one of milk and one of beer), Grandma's pushing strollers, and Mom's chasing little ones. What fun! We really missed Klayton on Sat. morning but know there would be no one he would make it through the game so tried to enjoy a few moments with the two of us. Like I said, the game was a heartbreaker but we made it back to Austin and tried to move on.

Luckily Kevin had a golf tournament out of town for a few days so he got to escape some of the comments but that left Klayton and me at home to attempt the transition from formula and bottle to whole milk and sippy cup. Yikes! Klayton has taken so quickly to everything that I was not expecting a battle. Wrong! He has beend drinking water out of a sippy cup since he was 5 months so why wouldn't he drink milk? Wrong! We've tried new sippy cups, we've tried trainer cups, we've trained regular formula in a sippy cup but no luck yet. I am trying to stay calm but admittedly it is a little frustrating. All the doctors say that when they get hungry enough they will drink out of the sippy cup but they don't say that he will be so fussy that you will give in before he does. We have not given him a bottle during the day in 10 days and no bottle at night for the last 2 and still no luck. (Granted we are not starving the kid, he eats great at meals and we are pushing yogurt and cheese so he gets lots of milk products.) I guess we will try to remain patient and hope for the best.

This weekend it was my turn to be out of town. I had a bachelorette party and spent Sat. night in Houston with girlfriends. A&M survived, Kevin survived, Klayton survived, and I survived (barely) . I guess that means all is well on the homefront. Here is a picture of Kevin and Klayton walking to the mailbox. Oh I almost forgot. Klayton got new tennis shoes and he is such a grown up little boy. Sorry only one picture for the week. The next few weekends are weddings and Klayton is supposed to walk down the aisle at Laura's so that should mean a few pictures.
