Seven Firsts

There have been a lot of new happenings in our household and maybe that's the excuse for being slow with the blog updates but here goes anyway. I'll try to stay in order but not promising much :) Here are just a few of the latest firsts in the Chance household

1. Klayton's first freeze - Well more than just a freeze we had freezing rain which means the city of Austin shuts down. Kevin and I stayed home for 2 1/2 days and I think we were all a little stir crazy but we tried to make the most of it. Aunt Marla was in town from CA so it was nice to spend a little time with her as well. Klayton found a new toy - a down comforter. It was quite entertaining.

We also got to enjoy some movie watching

2. Klayton's first song - Ring around the Rosie. Like I said the ice storm meant we were cooped up for 3 days so we got to learn a few new tricks. He enjoyed practicing with his cousin Austin. Fortunately for us but unfortunately for Carrie, Austin and her got stuck here an extra day due to the ice as well. The boys were cute as ever.
3. First molars - at first we thought Klayton was just being fussy and of course as a first time mom I start to worry that he is spoiled or that I am not giving him enough attention. Then one evening I noticed something white and ventured into his mouth with my finger to find not one but 3 molars. I would be worse than a little cranky if I had 3 new teeth. But it does mean that he can eat even more. Like I ever thought that was possible.

4. Mom and Dad's 1st trip out of the country - Yeah! What an exciting trip for us. We went to Holland for 4 days. We were supposed to be staying with my Aunt Linda and Uncle Lary but Uncle Lary had to have an emergency surgery due to an accident on the bus in Haarlem so we ventured into Holland on our own. We missed our tour guides but enjoyed staying at their house in Haarlem and also spent a couple of days touring Amsterdam. What an amazing country. We could not believe how old everything was. Here if something is 100 years old it is absolutely ancient. Well there 100 years old is just starting to get broke in. Even the bikes that everybody rode seemed old. There certainly weren't any mountain bikes like we are used to. Here are just a few highlights from the trip

This is a little village outside of Amsterdam with some great windmills

This was inside of the church built in the 1400's.

At the very bottom is Carrie and I so you can tell you huge this organ was. Quite impressive!

This was on the streets of Amsterdam. It was cold but a blast!

5. Klayton's first party - other than his own of course. And actually we went to this before we left for Holland but anyway. There was lots of other kids and Klayton is finally starting to warm up to other kids. Yeah! Of course this is another one of the crazy worries but I am finally deciding he is not anti-social.

6. My first 50+ hour work week - Yikes! I know it sounds crazy but I am trying to hire someone. If this would have been going on when Klayton was a newborn I never would have made it. Luckily I have a great babysitter (Thanks Mom!) and we are making things work. Again I'll try to blame my lateness on work but I know it will get better.

7. Klayton's 1st sleepover - This weekend Kevin and I had the house to ourself for the 1st time since Klayton was born. It was kind of quiet. Aunt Laura wanted to keep him Friday night so we used the time to enjoy an early Valentine's date. We are so lucky!

OK. That is enough for now. It is all just so much fun. Klayton his learning more everyday and becoming more and more of a toddler. Yes that means all of the joys of toddler but we take the good with the bad and let me tell you those dimples and that laugh make a lot of things worthwhile!
