This fall we decided to head to the wine country in California for a mini vacation. We had some extra Southwest tickets and have heard great things about the area so we ventured out. We don't normally take vacations where we don't have major plans (OK so we go to the beach but the major plans there are laying around but people might look at you a little funny if you just lay down in the middle of a vineyard). With a map, lots of gum and gummy bears (to deal with car sickness), and an edventurous spirit, we set out.
The boring interstate drive from the airport to the hotel was replaced with the curvy mountain road that was definitely not boring. A little scary at times but some gorgeous views. Then we just found a restaurant and watched the Aggies lose a close game to OSU. Somehow the loss wasn't as bad when you are on vacation. Then on Friday we set out for a hiking adventure at the state park. It was a perfect little hike for us with some great views, great time for talking, and a little adrenaline pumping to get the day started before proceeding to the wineries.
We then proceed to what Kevin likes to call "Wine University." We tried to listen to our family's advice and then used a guide book and chose 4 wonderful wineries in Napa Valley.
Sat morning entailed more exploring with this time the goal being the beach. Again more winding rounds and a few wrong turns but we managed to make it to the beach and drive along the infamous Highway 1.
Then we headed to Sonoma for some more wine tasting and some more gorgeous scenery.
