Camping

Another weekend of camping and a few more great adventures. Before I start to explain the weekend, I will answer a few questions. Yes, we look at the weather forecast (but seldom does it stop us); yes we enjoy being outside that much; and no Klayton doesn't think we are cruel and unusual (at least not for taking him camping, he loves every minute of it)

OK so Friday afternoon we headed down to Canyon Lake. We had lots of problems making reservations. Who knew camping was so popular. But we went and got the last open site. Sure we'll take it but before we even began unloading we realized that we left all of our "cold food." So any food that needed to be refridgerated for the trip was in a bag that stayed in our fridge at home. whoops! So we headed back to town to plan a new menu. Oh well! We set up camp and enjoyed a nice dinner and the wind started to shift. I decided to try to get Klayton to sleep before it all blew in. Well just like that the front was here with a fury. Our tent almost collapsed and Klayton was a little scared so I got into the tent with him and we sang songs to stay calm and the rain began. Kevin in the meantime was trying to secure the campsite and find the extra stakes for the tent as the wind had already broke a stake in half and pulled several other out of the ground. Then the rain got really loud and we started to get a little damp but by this time Klayton was asleep. Kevin then brought his tent survival skills inside the tent and a few wet towels, a spilled beer, and 30 minutes later. It was over. Only then did Kevin inform me that it was not rain but hail that was bombarding our tent. Nice right! By this time we realized that our new super tent was different from our cute little 2 man tent we used to use. This giant needing staking down good and the vestibule had to be tied tight. So with the tent reconstructed and tied down tight, 2 more thunderstorms came through and we stayed dry.

The next day was windy and cold. Needless to say if wasn't exactly fishing weather. But like I said Klayton didn't mind a bit. He had a great time playing with everything but his favorite was the broom. I hope he doesn't have his heart set on being a janitor later in life.Kevin tried to keep us warm with a fire but wind and wet logs led to lots of smoke!
So we headed out for a driving lesson. Yes, I learned how to back up the truck and boat trailer. Later that afternoon we decided to go for a short fishing trip and brave the wind. All went fine putting the boat in the water. And we did a little fishing and even caught a couple of fish. Then when it came time to put the boat back on the trailer we decided to use a different ramp that was out of the wind. All good and fine except the ramp was at an angle and I am by no means an expert at backing it up. It didn't help that there were 2 college guys watching me like I was a dork but several attempts later the boat was on the trailer and I survived. Sat evening the winds tied down and we had a wonderful evening of just relaxing. Sunday morning was brisk to say the least (probably in the 30's) but the water was great to we did a little more fishing. As always, this trip was an adventure but one we wouldn't pass up.

yes, that is the broom again but you can tell by his big smile that he can't wait to go back
